Global War On Terror Memorial Bricks

The Global War on Terror Memorial (GWTM) Brick program will honor those whose lives were lost in terrorist acts against U.S. forces in the last three decades.

Those acts include Operation “Enduring Freedom”; Operation “Iraqi Freedom”; the Pentagon attack on September 11, 2001; the attack on the U.S.S. Cole on October 12, 2000; the bombing of Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia on June 25, 1996; Operation “Restore Hope”, Somalia; Operation “Desert Storm” in January 1991; and terrorist acts against U.S. personnel in Beirut from 1982 to 1985.

To memorialize the Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors and Marines who died in our fight against radical Islamic terror groups, we will place eight-inch square memorial bricks on the floor of the Hagel-Kerrey Lodge at the Wounded Warriors Family Support Retreat.

Each brick will be inscribed with the honoree’s name and unit insignia as a lasting tribute for service to our country.

For $250, you may dedicate a brick for a Soldier, Marine, Airman or Sailor who was killed during combat operations. Each dedication will be noted on a brick map in the lodge and a Certificate of Dedication (See Example) will be given to each donor.

Your generous contribution will commemorate the service of those who “gave the last full measure of devotion” for our country and will help with the construction of the Wounded Warriors Family Support Retreat.

The placement of the bricks will be the first memorial to honor all those who have lost their lives in the Middle East in our fight against Islamic terrorism and tyranny.

"The terrorist threat to our nation did not emerge on September 11, 2001. Long before that day, radical, freedom-hating terrorists declared war on America and on the civilized world. The attack on the Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983, …the attacks on American installations in Saudi Arabia in 1995 and 1996, …the attack on the USS Cole in 2000, …were part of a sustained, systematic campaign to spread devastation and chaos and to murder innocent Americans".

Honor Walk Bricks

Your messages of thanks and support to those who have served our country in uniform will pave the walks of the Wounded Warriors Family Support Retreat for all to see.

The “Honor Walk” at the retreat will link our family cabins, the Hagel-Kerrey Lodge and the Dunham Chapel and will be accessible to those in wheelchairs.

For a contribution of $125, you may dedicate a four- by- eight-inch brick. This will be a wonderful way to honor friends or family members for their selfless service to our country. You may create a four-line message to be inscribed on the brick as a tribute to all those who have served our country in war and peace.

About the bricks

Each memorial brick is a full, standard paver inscribed with laser engraving, a process that provides a black, glossy, durable and aesthetically pleasing finish. These bricks will be a permanent feature of the Wounded Warriors Family Support Retreat, enduring for generations. They will not only honor those who “gave the last full measure of devotion” but will also help to finance the construction of the Wounded Warriors Family Support Retreat.
